What Does Your Brand Identity Say About Your Small Business?

Whether you’re a two-person small business or a big publicly-traded company, it’s important that your brand identity is professional and consistent across all consumer touchpoints. That said, it’s critical that your brand materials look nice and are reflective of your brand at all times. This can (and will) influence whether or not current and prospective customers want to do business (or continue to do business) with you.

Not sure where to start? Here are six pieces of collateral worth creating, reviewing and/or updating to ensure you’re making a great first impression.

1. Business Cards

A piece of paper stock just 3.5 inches long and 2 inches wide (on average*) is a powerful business identity product even in today’s technology-driven world. But, keep in mind that the following elements of your business card can make (or break) a first impression with a prospective customer: design, paper, color, coating and message.

(*Unorthodox sizes of business cards are also gaining popularity because they stand out in a stack of standard, rectangular business cards).

2. Business Letterhead

Your letterhead is another key element of your business identity, so make sure to put your professional foot forward with custom letterhead (printed and digital!) that captures your logo and business information in a clean and sophisticated way.

3. Business Envelopes

An envelope should be more than simply a vehicle for your business correspondence. Believe it or not, business envelopes convey a message to your current and potential customers – even before they even open it, so make sure it’s a good one.

4. Business Brochures

Whether you’re looking to explain your business’s products and services or market a specific program or event, your business brochures should make a statement. Make your brochure stand out with custom sizes, specialty paper stock and custom folds.

5. Business Folders

You don’t want to go show up to a new client meeting without a professional business folder to house all of your important sales and marketing documents. Make sure you are prepared with a polished-looking presentation folder that matches your business cards and letterhead.

6. Business Forms

Before you make another copy-of-a-copy of a business form you use on a regular basis, white out dated information on a document or cover an outdated logo with a sticker, remember your business forms (e.g. business invoices, estimates and service agreements) are a reflection of your company and should be treated as such.

Developing and maintaining a professional and consistent brand identity is a critical part of an effective branding strategy for small businesses.
